CREATING IMPACT | STAYING TRUE

Seven performance principles shape our work

The following seven principles, about individual, team, and organisational performance, guide Magenta’s work.

By honouring these principles we help you see your business more clearly and accelerate and extend our impact on your performance.

  1. Energy is the most critical enabler of performance – you can do anything with it, and nothing without it. Leaders benefit from understanding the dynamics of energy.
  2. Clarity is often the 'fail point' in both individual and organisational pursuits. Being clear enables sharp focus, strong alignment and smart decisions. This includes clarity about:

    ■ Why you exist
    ■ Your key stakeholders, and what they most value
    ■ Your goals, and how they will be achieved
    ■ Your market, and how it is evolving
    ■ What enables you to compete, and win
    ■ What's the economic model that drives success
    ■ The key points of focus and effort - what are the one or two 'must win battles' for the next six to 12 months
    ■ People's roles and their key performance 'ingredients'
    ■ What makes you tick, and what makes your team members tick
  3. A resourceful and continuous improvement mindset is vital to thrive in a world characterised by increasing levels of competition, complexity and disruption. Unhelpful habits of thought, action and process exist in every organisation – but they can be changed.
  4. Make changes before you have to. Take sensible risks. Be comfortable with a little discomfort.
  5. Employee engagement is driven up as much by good results as it contributes to good results. So there is never a need for a ‘pecking order’ in addressing these.
  6. Regardless of the performance arena, strength in each of the following areas is vital to delivering consistently strong results:

    ■ Communication consistency and regularity
    ■ Self and other awareness
    ■ Alignment amongst leaders
    ■ Trust
    ■ Teamwork
    ■ The ability of leaders to empower
  7. Awareness, effort and focus really count.

What our clients say

I first worked with Jim almost 10 years ago when Jim was the Managing Director at Rogen and I was part of the leadership team at Macquarie Telecom. We worked with Rogen for a number of years on improving the overall business fundamentals by improving leadership and culture.

Jim certainly didn’t sit back. He took an active part in really understanding our business and what we could do to improve. Jim focused us on understanding the facts and then to develop strategies that would work for our business. This was not text book learning but adapting proven methodologies to our business. Jim was prepared to tackle the hard issues and make sure the leadership team took accountability for developing the appropriate strategies to overcome these challenges. Over a time we were able to see the results in areas such as:

 Increased profitability
 Improved staff retention and employee engagement scores
 Improved leadership behaviours as evidenced by improved Executive LSI performance
 Executive coaching and mentoring sessions

Not only do I look back with pride about what we achieved together. I still use so much of these skills in what I do now some 10 years later, I recommend Jim very highly as a skilled professional who will take the time required to make a real and lasting difference to your business.
